Infiniti is already testing an early prototype for its electric vehicle.

Speaking to Autocar, Infiniti boss Ronald Krueger confirmed he has driven an early prototype of Infiniti’s EV, saying that it is “very good.” Although we wouldn’t expect him to say anything else in describing a future model, Krueger did add that the automaker has a goal of making sure the EV has “a unique Infiniti driving experience.”

While details are still light, he also revealed that the EV will be built on a new platform, suggesting that it won’t be based on an existing model and will be a dedicated EV built from the ground up with that intention.

Given Nissan’s expertise with electrification, particularly with its Leaf, don’t be surprised to see Infiniti borrowing technology from Nissan. “There are lots of engineering competencies we can tap into and utilize,” he said.

It’s been nearly five years since Infiniti previewed an all-electric car. The LE Concept was actually built off the Nissan Leaf, so it’s unlikely we’re seeing a production version of the LE Concept. In terms of performance, the concept boasted 134 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.
